André Klip (1965) is Professor of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and the Transnational Aspects of Criminal Law at Maastricht University. He is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Penal Law and member of the Council of the European Law Institute. Besides that, he is a judge at the ’s-Hertogenbosch Court of Appeal (criminal division). Throughout his career, he has been frequently involved in national and international legal practice in cases before international and national (criminal) courts. Furthermore, in 2016, he published the 3rd edition of ‘European Criminal Law. An Integrated Approach’ with Intersentia (Cambridge). He is Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Crime, Criminal Law and Criminal Justice and founder and editor of the book series ‘Annotated Leading Cases of International Criminal Tribunals’ (52 volumes since 1999). Currently, he is involved in two projects financed by the European Commission: CrossBES, a project conducted with the Public Prosecution Services on the cross-border execution of sentences in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany; as well as with InAbsentiEAW, a study together with the District Court of Amsterdam on European Arrest Warrants relating to in absentia convictions. In addition, he currently conducts a comparative study on the modernisation of criminal procedure on request of the Netherlands’ Ministry for Justice.
